Our story
We have always searched.
For a place to belong. For safety and a sense of community. But also for the unknown, the unexpected, for what lies beyond the next turn.
Here, along the Rokån, people have always searched for just that. The timber of the forest and the power of the water. Game and fish. A home to build, a place to cultivate, a life to live. River pearls hidden in the cold waters of the forest river. Silver in the deep forests. The adventure, and the truth behind the legends.
Stories still live on around this place of Forest Sámi and settlers, log drivers and treasure seekers — people who followed the rhythms of nature through seasons and centuries. Stories of the earthly and the mysterious, the visible and the unseen.
Perhaps that is why this place still awakens something deeply human. Two forces that have followed us throughout time — the need to belong and the longing to discover what is still waiting to be found. A duality in whose field of tension we find balance and feel most alive.
In our time, this has become increasingly difficult to find. In a world spinning ever faster, growing ever warmer, ever more connected. Where we live closer together, move faster and are bombarded with more impressions than ever before.
That is why we need places where nature still sets the pace. Where the changing seasons and their temperaments are unmistakable. Where silence is not the absence of sound, but space for thought.
It is from the search for this that Rokaglim has emerged.
In the heart of the old Piteå region, in the coastal lands of Infjärden between forest and sea, where Rokån has shaped the landscape for thousands of years. Here, people have lived close to nature, built their homesteads, operated mills and sawmills, floated timber downstream and allowed life to follow the rhythms of nature and water. Here, Sámi, Nordic and Finno-Ugric traditions have met in the landscape, the language and the stories.
Rokaglim was born from this. Our name tells you why.
ROK comes from Rokån and Roknäs, but also carries older meanings of home and hearth — the place where smoke rose towards the sky and told others that someone lived here. It is about roots, community and the feeling of belonging to something greater.
GLIM is the other half. The light shimmering across the water. A reflection between the trees. The northern lights suddenly revealing themselves. The search for the unexpected and elusive. For what cannot always be bought, planned or produced, only discovered.
Just as river pearls and silver once drew people here, today we search for something else. Not status or more possessions, but time, stillness, presence, seclusion and togetherness. Experiences that touch us deeply and linger long after the journey has ended.
It is in the balance between homecoming and longing that Rokaglim has taken shape. For us, luxury is not about being the biggest, the boldest or the most spectacular, but about creating something genuine. A contemporary homestead where nature and hospitality, stories and experiences grow from the place itself and together form a whole.
What is truly exclusive is not what is seen the most, but what is felt the most. Waking to the mist over the river. Hearing the forest before anyone else has had the chance. Sharing a meal around the fire. Discovering how silence makes room for conversation, reflection and presence.
Not to escape the world, but to find our way back to it.
To an Arctic forest homestead where homecoming meets longing and wonder.
